Understanding Our Process

Securing Your Legacy With A Step-By-Step Plan

Our Process

The tangible outcome of an estate plan are legal documents. However, legal documents that are not aligned with your values and goals are useless. And could even create results that go against your wishes or damage your family relationships. Our process is designed to understand the values and issues that motivate you in life and then work with you to create and implement a customized estate plan that supports your unique goals.

Consultation Meeting

Your goals and values are the most important element of your estate plan. Our first conversation will center around your goals and values, which will shape our planning together. We will review your answers to the Estate Planning Consultation questionnaire, develop your goals and discuss the strategies for how we might achieve your goals.

Proposal

After we review all of the information you have shared with us, we will send you a proposal outlining the basic estate plan structure we recommend. The proposal will include a fee and a letter of engagement to hire us. We will ask you to pay a deposit of 50% of the fee after signing the letter of engagement.

We typically charge a flat fee for our estate planning services so you know exactly how much your bill will be at the end. We cannot quote a fee until after the consultation meeting because each plan will be unique.

Preparing your plan

Estate Planning Documents : Living Trust, Living Will, Healthcar

We will begin drafting documents to support your estate planning goals. Depending on your circumstances, we may need to schedule another consultation meeting or send you follow-up questions for clarification. While we are working on your documents, we will also send you some additional homework to further develop your plan. The tasks we assign will vary depending on your circumstances.

Reviewing your important summary information

Once we have created a draft of your customized estate planning documents, we will send you a summary sheet identifying the individuals and charities named in your plan and a summary of the key provisions for you to review for accuracy.

Finalizing your plan

We will make any necessary adjustments to the plan and documents based on your feedback of the summary and prepare final documents for you to sign. We will schedule a signing meeting with our notary to execute the final documents to make them official and legally binding. We will ask you to pay the final portion of the estate planning fee before you sign the final documents.

Funding your plan

Once your estate plan is created, we must ensure that your assets are properly transferred to the new plan. We will walk you through our specific recommendations and can provide you with assistance on implementing those recommendations.

We will discuss how to communicate your plan to your beneficiaries and decision makers. If desired, we will invite your beneficiaries and decision makers to the funding meeting to facilitate a conversation and help you answer questions. This will enable you to feel more confident that your plan will operate smoothly.

Finally, you will receive your original signed documents in a portfolio along with printed and electronic copies of your documents for safekeeping. You will leave with a roadmap for next steps and actions you will need to take to finalize your plan.
